Gentrification in Harlem

Gentrification is the process in which an urban area will go through rapid changes in its physical state. For instance, small businesses and buildings will go through redevelopment in order to improve housing and attract new businesses.

Harlem has been going through gentrification since the beginning of the 1990s. Neighborhoods are changing physically, property values are increasing, demands are increasing and etc.

Gentrification is causing rental prices in Harlem to increase dramatically. It is causing thousands of people to move out of Harlem because they are unable to afford the utilities and lead a normal life.
